THE uMvoti Agricultural Society (UAS) and the Umvoti Fire Protection Association (UFPA) hosted their information evening at the Greytown Bowling Club on March 12.

There were a few members playing a fun game of bowls, and there was a good turn out of members and their spouses for the information evening.

UAS president Lloyd Robertson welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending. Chairperson for UFPA Sean Sneyd spoke on behalf of the UFPA and gave a brief summary of what is currently happening in the UFPA; with the fire detection cameras and the upgrades, the new weather stations to be installed to get a more accurate local FDI, the new smart phone app to be used for the FDI, farm fire equipment and water checks to be done by the FPO (Avela), and the McBeans discount to members on firefighting equipment

Julian Chaning-Pearce spoke on behalf of G911 and explained (and showed) how the new Licence Plate Recognition camera system, which is now up and running in the area, worked and how the system will benefit the whole community.

Robertson explained the various portfolios that the UAS committee members dealt with (security, roads, rates, communication and ICASA, live stock issues, land issues, emerging farmers and community upliftment, fundraising and community spirit) on behalf of the farmers.

He also spoke on the importance of being a member of KwaNalu and organised agriculture for all the “behind the scenes” work they do.

Thanks to the Greytown Bowling Club for the use of their premises and Tranquilitea for catering.
