2017-07-05 06:01

A 25-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Greytown Regional Court on 28 June for the "inhumane" rape of a teenager.

On the morning of 13 September, 2014, a group of teenage girls were washing their clothes at the river on Balcombe Estate, Kranskop, when one of them, a 16-year-old was attacked.

It is reported that the accused, Mandla Dladla, confronted the teen at knife point, dragged her into bushes, stabbed and raped her.

The other girls ran home to report the attack and members of the community responded. They found the accused still in the bushes with the victim. He managed to escape, but was arrested a few days later in the Stanger area.

Dladla pleaded not guilty. The regional magistrate found him guilty and sentenced him to life.
