Makhabeleni Housing and Electrification projects

2017-10-25 06:00

THE hopes, dreams and needs of the people of Umvoti were realised yesterday when the mayor, TC Ngubane, announced the electrification programme being rolled out in three areas within the municipality.

The areas of Delevu, Mfishane and Mthiyaqwa were previously earmarked by the municipal council for the installation of electricity after lengthy discussions with the affected communities.

The contractors responsible for this electrification programme, Sibgem Management and Engineers, headed by Osborne Dlamini, were introduced to the community.

Deputy Mayor, Cllr N. Masikana asked residents to work with contractors and avoid things such as theft of materials as that would impact on turn-around time and affect the standard of living.

It was also a great honour for the municipality to, in the same week, give an update on a housing project which is headed by the national Department of Housing and Human Settlements, with the Umvoti Municipality.

This housing project was first introduced in 2015 in the Makhabeleni area.

The contractors for this project, Zamokuhle Development Consultants, have, since the inception of the project, partaken in intensive research of both the community and the land in which to build in.

Soil tests and other technicalities were also addressed during this time.

Municipal speaker, Cllr Khoza, who headed the address on Friday, said the contractors had given feed back to the municipality and town officials were pleased and satisfied with the findings.

Necessary documentation to now take the next step in the housing development is with the national departments and Cllr Khoza said that although this process of documentation may take a while as numerous departments were involved, the people of Makhabeleni would soon receive their houses as promised. - Siqalokuhle Media, on behalf of Umvoti Municipality.
