A MAN who was hijacked and forced to drive his vehicle to the Nhlalakahle location was shot and killed on Sunday at about 3am.

The man, who had one passenger, was hijacked along Durban Road.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thulani Zwane said: “It is alleged that the victims were driving their vehicle at a robot when they were approached by two suspects who pointed firearms at them. The suspects jumped into their vehicle and drove away with the victims towards the Nhlalakahle location.”

One of the victims, the passenger, managed to jump out of the moving vehicle. He was shot at but survived. The hijacked vehicle was then driven to a local hostel where the driver was allegedly shot and killed, and his body was left there. The suspects drove away in the stolen vehicle.

A case of hijacking, murder and attempted murder was opened at the Greytown police station.

Following the incident, one suspect was arrested and the other was allegedly shot dead by police at the Msinga area.

“Two unlicensed firearms as well as the hijacked vehicle were recovered from the suspects. The arrested suspect appeared on Monday in the Msinga Magistrate’s court while investigation about the murder and hijacking continues,” said Zwane.
