MASIFUNDE Siphumelele is an Anglican Church funded programme that was initiated in February this year with the aim of supplementing primary education, helping pupils with fundamental skills that can assist is shaping a different future than their present circumstances. The children are taught basic computing, numeracy and mathematics using educational computer programs. Pupils are also assisted with homework and are taught to read. Joan Dutton, founder of the Umvoti Aids Centre and a retired teacher, co-founded this programme with Mr Dutton, a retired engineer, and they were assisted by passionate facilitator Nontobeko Dube, Shan Stamp, and Sheila Venter — who made this graduation memorable. We project formalisation and growth of this project with collaborative efforts with parents and local schools. For more information please contact the centre at 033 413 2745/6.
