IT is an incredible achievement - 17-year-old Xolile Mvelase, a Grade 11 pupil at Phathizwe High School in Pomeroy, has been selected to represent South Africa at the African championships in Kenya in December.

Her event is the 5 000 metre walk.
Xolile came first in the CMC, district and provincial challenges and finally in the South African National Schools Athletics championships at Greenpoint Stadium, Cape Town.

Phathizwe High principal, Mr A.M. Xulu said Xolile is actively involved in school life – she does well academically, plays netball, runs and is a very disciplined and focused young lady with tremendous potential for a positive future.

Xolilie is an orphan who lives with her grandmother, a pensioner. The school is appealing for assistance, donations and sponsorship for this talented young sports star.

Please contact Mr Xulu on 073 782 7305 for details or the Greytown Gazette.
