UMVOTI Municipal workers have been striking since Monday demanding better wages and conditions for permanent and temporary workers;the supply of uniforms, overalls etc; as well as the essential provision of health and occupational safety clothing etc.

Strikers told a Greytown Gazette reporter that “the Mayor must go as enough was enough.

“Money was being wasted on vehicles, petrol, security guards, transport, etc., - problems they were now facing was because of the corruption which had to come to an end”.

Many of the strikers indicated that they would not go back to work until their demands in regard to the Mayor had been met.

At the time of going to press on Tuesday morning - Pietermaritzburg SAPS had been called in to monitor the situation.

The strikers were waiting to be addressed by management and the Mayor. All administration facilities were closed and locked down.
