“A CHILD’S contact with nature will influence health in adulthood, increase cognitive functioning, and lead to long-term gains in attitudes, beliefs, self-perceptions, interpersonal social skills and memory creation and retention.”

For this reason, the children at New Hanover Prep are exposed to a variety of outdoor experiences in diverse natural environments. The Grade 3 pupils, for example, enjoyed an educational outing to Tala Game Reserve.

The reserve features over 380 bird species, with game that includes kudu, hippo, giraffe and eland.

An experienced guide led them on a game drive followed by an exciting nature hunt and an interesting bush walk. The Grade 7 pupils have just returned from their amazing annual tour to St Lucia and surrounding areas. The tour was made all the more memorable due to the classes’ fantastic behaviour and willingness to get involved and experience new things.

They all returned home on Friday with plenty of stories, rather tired, full of enthusiasm and with a number of highlights.
