AT NHP we believe in exposing our children to a number of different sporting codes. Although children are afforded the opportunity to focus on and excel in their preferred sports, we believe that at a primary school level, children should be taught the fundamental skills, techniques and rules of all sports instead of specialising too early. The sports programme at New Hanover Prep exposes the children to more than nine sports, as well as sessions on our obstacle course to build core strength. While our sport programme is a pivotal part of the children’s development, we strive to do our best on the sports field while always emphasising the importance of sportsmanship and manners on the field. One of the sports the children are participating in is basketball. The children love this fast-paced, fun and dynamic sport. Earlier this term we hosted a basketball coaching clinic at NHP. The coaches and Grade 6 and 7 children learnt from an international Fiba referee, Suwi Suwila.
