NEW Hanover Prep hosted its annual inter-house swimming gala last week. Whether they were participating in the one length kicker board race or the individual medley, the children all gave of their best. Due to the depth of swimmers in our Grade 1 class this year, three new events were included in the gala and the respective records were set for the first time: U7 girls’ breaststroke — Amy van Breda, U7 boys’ breaststroke — Angus Kyle and the Rietbok team set the record for the mixed U7 freestyle relay. In addition to this, a number of records were broken, namely: U11 girls’ breaststroke — Georgie Kyle, U10 girls’ freestyle — Taylor Trethewey, Open girls’ backstroke — Bianca Hillermann and the mixed U10 freestyle relay record was broken by the Rietbok team. Awards: Style Cup: Bianca Hillermann. Most improved swimmers: Luke Whittle, Ethan Adams and Siya Masuku. Junior Victor Ludorum: Daniel Uys. Junior Victrix Ludorum: Taylor Trethewey and Georgie Kyle. Senior Victor Ludorum: Liam Freese. Senior Victrix Ludorum: Bianca Hillermann. Rietbok won the gala with 524 points to Duiker’s 335 points and Duiker won the fiercely contested Spirit Trophy.
