EDUCATIONAL excursions are memorable learning experiences which give children the opportunity to acquire greater confidence. They have an impact on pupils' learning for a long time afterwards.

This term, the grade two and three pupils from New Hanover Primary visited the Umgeni River Bird Park to experience walk-through aviaries and open paddocks, as well as to view a free-flight show — unique in Africa — which featured critically endangered species in unrestricted flight. They also enjoyed a guided tour around the Maritime Museum, ending off with a harbour cruise.

Moving the class outside opens up a world of fresh stimuli for the senses that have the amazing power to lock into the brain, securing whatever information was being learned at the time along with it.
