2015-12-02 06:00

NEW requirements have come into law with regard to any motor vehicle or driving licence transaction as from 1 November with proof of identification as well as residential and postal address verification to be produced.

Identity proof documents are the usual - ID, passport, foreign country ID, etc.
Fortunately, there is a wide range of documents which will be accepted for proof of address, these include a municipality utility or rates statement not older than three months, bank statement, telephone account, SARS correspondence, official stamped letter from hostel administration, educational institution, ward councillor or local tribal authority for applicants who live in an informal settlement or rural area.

Also acceptable - mortgage statement, not older than six months, lease agreement, not older than a year, official tax return and/or assessment, recent insurance policy document or a valid TV licence.

A spokesperson for the Greytown Municipal Licensing office said the new requirements had not created any problems with applicants producing the required identification and proof of address.
