AS from last Saturday, social grant beneficiaries who withdrew their grants through the bank or used a PIN must now use the new gold South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) card or their personal bank account. The old Sassa card expired at the end of September.

A Sassa spokesperson said that the new card is an improvement in that it does not allow deductions for things such as airtime, loans or prepaid electricity.

The new card allows three free cash withdrawals at points of sale, one free withdrawal at the Post Office each month, free swipes at points of sale and the card is accepted by all ATMS displaying the Visa sign.

Beneficiaries can contact Sassa free of charge on 033 846 3400.
