New water project launched in Khamanzi

THE poverty-stricken community of Khamanzi near Greytown will soon have access to clean water after a R75 million new water project was launched in the area recently.

The function was held at the Khamanzi community hall on April 29.

Mayor Thobekile Maphumulo visited the community that has been surviving on water tankers and the community came out in their numbers to attend the function. The aim of the project is to provide the people of Khamanzi with quality drinking water.

The spokesperson for uMshwathi Municipality, Sbusiso Mkhithi, said: “This water project is going to provide jobs for up to 100 people.

“Qualified engineers and contractors from the area are going to get first preference.

“This water project will also offer training for those who do not have qualifications but want to be a part of this development.

“This water project is the beginning of great things for the Khamanzi community.”

Sbongile Mbatha Ntuli encouraged the community to work together with the contractors so the project will be completed on time and prove to be a great success.

Residents were also reminded about the upcoming elections that are taking place.
