Oh we do so like to be beside the seaside

2017-05-03 06:00

UMVOTI’S "hardworking" councillors and municipal staff this week have been spending Umvoti ratepayers’ hard- earned money on a three-day workshop at Coastlands, Umhlanga at an estimated cost for the 60 or so attending being over R350 000.

Of even more concern is that this strategic planning workshop was originally booked to be held at the Beehive (minimal transport costs and sleep at home) two weeks ago, but for some undisclosed reason was cancelled and replaced with the expensive seaside splurge.

Obviously the 60 concerned, after two long weekends were in dire need of the stimulating sea air. so they booked in on Monday 1 May.

The workshop runs from Tuesday 10 am to Thursday 4 May with departure after lunch. Municipal officials will undertake the presentations.

Coastlands is a four-star hotel - services offered include a spa and outdoor pool, free breakfast buffet, in the rooms a mini bar, deep soaking tub, flat-screen TV, coffee maker and free WiFi.

This is an upgraded repeat performance of last year's strategetic planning workshop when just 45 people attended and they had to "slum" it at a three-star hotel in Ballito, but it still cost ratepayers a couple of hundred thousand rand.

Any bets for a five-star venue for 2018.
