Open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa

2019-11-20 06:00

CONGRATULATIONS to the Springboks. Well done South Africa.

I think South Africa as a whole has never felt as good as now after winning the 2019 Rugby World Cup. How fantastic also to have our president there in full support. Seldom has our nation been as united as at this moment in our history.

Nowhere at any stage during the Rugby World Cup did race or politics rear its ugly head.

At this moment we are all excited and proud to be South Africans.

In the last couple of weeks or months, we have had all the advice from politicians, economists and visionaries on how to save South Africa. However, it was just the same old gloomy rhetoric.

This is our one and only chance to really change and turn the country around. The whole country is now hyped up. The citizens individually cannot make a meaningful change. Our president cannot make a change by himself. I beg our president to strike while the iron is hot.

One motivational speech in Parliament is ineffective. Our president must repeatedly urge every South African at every occasion or opportunity to forget the past and work for the good of the country.

If the government is not financially strong, any amount of goodwill cannot change the economy. This must be a partnership of the government and the private sector.

As our president, it is your opportunity to urge your citizens who work for the government or the private sector and who have benefitted illegally, for example by not paying taxes or defrauding the government through shady deals, to stop doing it for the good of the country.

Your aim must be to change the whole mindset of the population from “How can I make the most money, legally or illegally?” to “What can I do to save the country from becoming another Zimbabwe?”

Mr President, the only way you can achieve this sort of cooperation is through repetition, repetition, repetition.
