ONE man died and another sustained injuries after the car that they were travelling in rolled multiple times in Dalton on Friday, September 27.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle, identified as D. Ndlovu, was travelling with a passenger to Pietermaritzburg when the incident occurred at about 2 pm on Friday.

ER24 Spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen said: “When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the vehicle lying on its side in the middle of the field. Another medical service was already attending to the injured.

“Upon further assessment, paramedics found a man who was in a critical condition. Advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated but, unfortunately, the man succumbed to his injuries a short while later. He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

“Another man was found [on the scene] with moderate injuries. He was treated on the scene before being transported to hospital for further medical care. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not known to our paramedics.”

Acting police spokesperson for Mountain Rise SAPS, Sean Singh, said a case of culpable homicide was opened for investigation.

“The driver was transported to hospital in a serious condition. The passenger died at the scene,” Singh said.
