GRADE 12 pupils from Mount Ernestina Combined School had the great opportunity to attend an exciting career expo at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westville Campus, on May 28.

The aim of the expo was to provide the pupils with information on various educational programmes offered by the university.

The 42 pupils; who were accompanied by their teachers Mrs Z Zondi, Mr HM Xaba, Miss SN Mthalane, Miss O Jaku, and Mr TE Ndawonde; were impressed by the quality of programmes offered such as commerce and management, engineering, health sciences, humanities, law, and science.

Philani Dlamini, a Grade 12 pupil who wants to be a chartered accountant, said that he was happy to participate in the expo.

“There was so much I learnt here. I am feeling more inspired to be at university next year,” he said.

Another Grade 12 pupil, Buhle Zulu, echoed Dlamini’s feelings, saying: “This career expo has increased my desire to pursue my studies at tertiary level.

“I’m feeling more informed about career options available for us.”

For Thandekile Makhanya, who has applied for nursing, the career expo was an eye opener: “The career has expanded my knowledge on the field of nursing and the point system used by UKZN. I have learnt that what matters more is the quality of your pass and the numbers of points you have obtained in your matric.” — Supplied.
