IN preparation for the upcoming sports tournament to be held next month, eMakhabeleni Primary School participated in friendly games with neighbouring schools on August 15. The games saw other primary schools; including Tongwe, Vukaphansi and Sibuyane Primary; go head-to-head in both soccer and netball at Vukaphansi Stadium. Amakhabela, as they are affectionately known, performed exceptionally well despite their late coming as a result of service delivery protests in the area. Sports coordinators for eMakhabeleni Primary School Stanley Ncalane and Sandile Shangase said that they are proud of both the boys and girls for their performance. Ncalane said he was certain that the boys will do well in the upcoming tournament. “The preparations are going very well, as we saw on [August 15]. Despite our coming late to the games, the boys showed that they were prepared. Even though we didn’t win all the games, we are very proud of our boys,” Ncalane said. Shangase said the girls didn’t have time to rest in between the games but they tried their best. The four schools who participated showed a positive interest in the event and it proved to be very successful. All the players from the school’s teams showed fantastic team spirit.Newly appointed school principal NL Zondi, who took over the reins in April this year, said: “The school is grateful for the opportunity to take part in these games. The boys and girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we are looking forward to taking part in the tournament. Congratulations to all the participants.” Zondi also complimented the organisers for their outstanding efforts in keeping school sports alive and he acknowledged the efforts of the band of dedicated volunteer core comprising of teachers in the Kranskop North region.Boys scoresTeam B: Vukaphansi vs Amakhabela 2-2Team A: Vukaphansi vs Amakhabela 2-0Team B: Sibuyane vs Amakhabela 0-0Team A: Sibuyane vs Amakhabela 2-0Team B: Tongwe vs Amakhabela 0-1Team A: Tongwe vs Amakhabela 0-3Girls scoresVukaphansi vs Amakhabela 10-11Sibuyane vs Amakhabela 10-10Tongwe vs Amakhabela 11-3.
