A CASE of a man (31) accused of raping ANC volunteer made another turn at the Greytown Regional court after the accused filed a sick note in court last Wednesday.

The matter was adjourned until April 23.

The suspect was arrested last year after he allegedly raped an ANC volunteer at the Mayoral House in Greytown.

The matter has sparked community anger with the members of the public together with the ANC Women’s League protesting outside court.

In his last appearance in court on September 10, investigating officer Captain Schoeman from the Greytown FCS had told the court that the suspect raped the victim.

It is alleged that the rape took place on the night of September 14 at a house believed to be council property in Greytown.

It is alleged that the suspect had initially spiked the victim’s drink before he allegedly raped her.

ANCWL chairperson in the Inkosi Bhambatha Region Ntombi Ngubane called on women to unite and fight against abuse.

Ngubane said the members of the ANCWL will continue to attend the court proceedings until the matter is finalised.

She urged women who have been victims of abuse in the Inkosi Bhambatha Region, Umvoti and other areas to come forward and report the incidents to the police.
