Rapist sentenced to 20 years in prison

A MAN accused of raping an 11-year-old girl was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment at the Greytown Magistrate’s court on March 11.

It’a alleged that the accused, Dumsani Mdlalose (53) raped the victim at her aunt’s home outside Greytown.

According to the police, the incident happened between January 10 and January 21.

Members of the Greytown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit were dispatched in the area to look for the suspect.

Police said in a statement: “The victim has developed a medical condition and was taken to the local clinic. The suspect did not report the matter as the suspect threatened to kill her mother should she report the matter to her mother.”

The suspect was arrested on April 21, 2018 and appeared in court where bail was opposed. The matter went to trial and the accused was sentenced on March 11.
