THULANI Zondi (35) of Greytown is proving that you are never too old to take up a new challenge.

He has always enjoyed keeping fit and after a few injuries on the soccer field, decided that running may be a safer option.

Thulani entered the J.G. Zuma Marathon last year and surprised everybody, including himself with an excellent three hours and 40 minutes completion time.

This was without any real guidance on how to run a 42 km marathon.

The running bug has bitten and now there's no keeping him back.

One of Thulani dreams, which was to run the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon (56 km), came true when he was able to participate in the event in March.

With valuable coaching and tips from some local Umvoti Athletics Club members, Zondi was able to finish the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon in four hours and 15 minutes, just missing a silver medal, but very proud of the bronze medal he achieved. Thulani next challenge is the Comrades Marathon on June 10. Together with a number of Umvoti runners, Thulani will be at the line-up for the start of the Comrades and at the finish with a flourish.
