Schools commemorate Ascension Day

MOST schools across the province will be closed on Thursday, May 30 to commemorate Ascension Day.

This day is commemorated 40 days after Easter Sunday and is alternatively known as the Feast of Ascension. Despite the varying dates of Easter, Ascension Day will always fall on a Thursday.

According to website, this Christian holiday celebrates the ascension of Jesus into Heaven and is frequently called “Holy Thursday”.

The website further states that Ascension Day celebrates Christ’s exaltation. They elaborated by stating that while on Earth Jesus was a servant, and in heaven he is the ruler and “Lord of all”.

“By entering heaven as the representative of mankind, He completed the work of our salvation and guarantees the eventual glorification of all who love Him,” said the site. — Gazzette Reporter.
