SMIRRIE, the Umvoti Fire Protection Association sniffer dog, caught an arsonist recently.
His handler, Senzo Luthuli, said it took Smirrie less than 10 minutes to track the suspected arsonist from the point where the fire had started.
Smirrie is managed by Bidvest Protea Coin. A case of arson has been opened with the police.

A trained sniffer dog, Smirrie’s most important role is to detect arsonists starting fires, however, he is also able to assist in the event of a theft incident.

For a successful track it is important to make sure the scene is not contaminated before his arrival. Smirrie is available for use at no cost to all paid up UFPA members.

Should one require Smirrie, please contact Avela Mana on 076 154 1090. Please report any wild fires to Golf 911 on 033 417 2911 or 076 402 7772 and they will undertake the appropriate action.
