Spate of petty crime

2017-06-28 06:00

OVER the past few months there has been an increase in petty crime throughout the town. Residents are urged to be alert and aware of security at all times.
It is also important that anything suspicious be reported – calls to 911 or 033 413 2911 are processed to the SAPS, fire brigade, municipality, etc., as required.

On Monday in Okes Street, as a lady was using her remote control to lock her vehicle, a would-be thief, obviously not seeing her, opened the passenger door and then ran off.
She reported it to 911, drove round the streets and found him, and the potential thief was arrested.
Residents who have not joined Greytown’s Neighbourhood Watch are urged to do so in order to be kept informed of any problems and report others.

Among items stolen were copper piping from Greytown Welfare and two electric gate batteries.
