SPCA Tombola appeal

2018-06-06 06:02

THROUGHOUT the year the local branch of the SPCA rescues, cares for and homes numerous neglected, homeless and abused animals large and small.

Because of the sharp rise in the cost of living, many pet owners find they can no longer afford to feed or care for their pets.

Some responsibly hand their beloved animals over to the care of organisations such as the SPCA, others merely abandon their animals to wander bewildered, starving and having to fend for themselves where, if they are lucky, they end up in the care of animal shelters.

At present organisations such as the SPCA, countrywide, are experiencing a sharp increase in the numbers of animals being taken in contrasted by a steady decrease in the number of donations received to sustain their care for the animals handed over or rescued. Animal food, staff salaries and veterinary costs are all increasing, putting huge financial constraints on the functioning of these non-profit making organisations.

In an effort to raise much needed funds the local branch of the SPCA will be running a Tombola stall at the Greytown Creative Fair on July 29.

Donations of unwanted items in a good condition would be most gratefully received for this project.

Please spare a thought for the paw ones.

Contact Sylvan on 072 096 9634 if you have any items for collection, alternatively these could be dropped off at the Gazette offices.
