THE sixth Annual Wembley College, Mascor Spelling Bee took place in a vibrantly coloured “Bee”-themed Aloe Hall on February 27.

The school came dressed in “BEE colours”, wearing something yellow or black. The brave contestants from Grade 4 to matric participated in English and Afrikaans Spelling Rounds. The contestants were given a variety of words ranging in difficulty; such as chasm, indifference, chronic and ignorance; until the winner in each grade finally managed to spell all the words correctly without making a mistake. Each winner received a cash prize and the other contestants were given participation certificates. The audience were also given an opportunity to prove their spelling skills and win a piece of homemade fudge. We would like to thank Mascor, Greytown for their generous sponsorship.

Congratulations to the following winners: Grade 3 English: Aphelele Sokhela, Grade 4 and 5 English: Chinwendu Eke, Grade 6 Form 1 English: Caitie van Zuydam, Form 2 and 3 English: Sebastian Kruger, form 4-6 English: Renuka Nair, Grade 4 and 5 Afrikaans: Amanda Mnikathi, Grade 6 and Form 1 Afrikaans: Catie van Zuydam, Form 2 and 3 Afrikaans Carlien Lotter and Form 4-6 Afrikaans: Nicolene van Zyl. — Supplied.
