St Cathryn’s news

2015-11-25 06:23

THE Kranskop Farmers’ Association held its annual 9-hole fun golf day at St Cathryn’s on Saturday.
Farm manager Andrew Oellerman shanked his ball 90 degree to the right to hit a dairy cow in the paddock next door, only to ask if the ball could be played where it lay - on a cow pat.

Another shot of the day was when Gertjie van Rooyen miss hit his ball four times for four “freshies” in a row. This fund-raiser is the Kranskop Farmers’ Association’s way of raising funds for Golf 911.

All farmers were given a handicap of 24, as this was the average rainfall we had on Friday, and were then placed with an official golfer. All handicaps were then divided by three and a team handicap applied. The format was medal over nine holes, American scramble three-ball alliance and 21 golfers took to the course. With at least three drives per golfer tactical planning was the order of the day. The farmers’ children scattered for cover when their fathers tee’d off, but help was at hand to look for golf balls.

On Saturday we will be playing the Farmers’ Agri-Care monthly mug, and with mist being a major factor will tee off from nine. The competition is open to all golfers and we welcome visitors. Should 9am be too early, please give Piet a call and let us see where we can accommodate you.

Please look out for the renewal notices that will be going out for membership for the coming year. Please note that KZNGU and HNA subscriptions have increased for 2016 and we welcome payments in installments should that be better for you.

Take note, the new date for the December monthly mug, the first for the 2016 season, and AGM report-back and members dinner, has been moved to Saturday 12 December and the Mug of Mugs is to be played Sunday on 13 December. The committee is working on next year’s fixtures and we work with Greytown Golf Club to ensure we have no clashes.

Supper this Friday will be macaroni cheese, salad and breads. Please contact 083 269 1661 to book by Thursday at 12pm.
