St Cathryn’s news

2016-10-12 06:00

SIX St Cathryn’s members travelled to Darnall for the final leg of the Triangular tournament for 2016. Strong coastal southerly winds and heavy overcast weather greeted the golfers on the first tee. Mandeni Golf Club did not arrive as the third team in the triangular, although their club is about 25km away from Darnall.

Anyway, the tournament got under way and with rain predicted between 11.30am and 1pm, a slight rain fell between those hours, but not enough to stop the tournament.

The fifth hole called “Thromboses hill” at the highest part of the course was shrouded in low cloud and once you reached the green on this hole, at the top, the whole world below was covered in clouds. Now St Cathryn’s members coming from the mist belt, just east of the Gin belt were not scared and took on the nine Darnall golfers under the captaincy of Derek Werth.

1st Darnall 26 average points

2nd St Cathryn’s 25,5 average points

3rd Mandeni 0 points.

The trophy was then regained by the formidable St Cathryn’s team who were then judged the winning club for the year with the most points gained overall .

1st St Cathryn’s 87.58 points

2nd Darnall 85.15 points

3rd Mandeni 61 points.

This bodes well for the club that is going to the KZNGU Inter-club tournament at the end of the month on the South Coast.

On Saturday 15 October we will be playing the Farmers’ Agri-Care monthly mug and we tee off from 9am and invite all golfers to be part of our golf day.
