The KZNGU inter-club weekend has come and gone, and the St Cathryn’s Plennegy team made use of every opportunity and golf shot over the weekend, and gave their best shot.

The team’s motto for the weekend was “To find a man’s true character, play golf with him” - a quote by PG Wodehouse.

Lots of friends were made over the weekend and lots of good golf was played as well.

While playing Southbroom on Thursday, as a warm-up, team tactics were discussed. The three “Frog” teams also played Port Shepstone and Margate and to end the outing on a golfing high, some of the players decided to play golf at Royal Durban on Sunday - maybe they avoided the household chores that were waiting.

Our lady captain, Liekie Styen, teamed up with Vanessa Mattison from Cato Ridge and played in the ladies tournament at Selbourne Golf Club that drew 280 players. The ladies competition is run by the KZNLGA and is separate from the men’s, so their results are not available at the time of going to press. This was the first time that St Cathryn’s was represented at the ladies inter-club tournament.

None of our teams qualified for the Sunday finals and we would like to congratulate our neighbours from Greytown for reaching the senior finals in the Alliance section. Baie geluk kaptein Tienie Muller.

Our Frog 1 team: Deon van Dyk, Dieter Meyer and Lawrence Savage ended on 190 points in 24th position

Our Frog 2 team: Darrin Manser, Jarad Manser and Brent Barkhuizen ended on 187 points in 31st position - out 47 positions.

Our Senior Frog 1 team: Zane Padoa, Piet Nel and Neill Manser ended on 187 points in 29th position out of 48 positions.

This tournament is the biggest amateur golf tournament in South Africa, drew a total of 444 golfers, and is played over three days on three golf courses. We would like to thank KZNGU for a well-run tournament.

The whole team would also like to thank their sponsors, Plennegy, Clover, Origin Water, St Cathryns, Rhino Charcoal and our tournament team manager, Dieter, for keeping the team together and on the right tee box and on time.
