THIS past weekend KZNGU held their annual inter-club tournament on the South Coast.

All clubs affiliated to the union compete against each other in different divisions. What is always the best part, is to see old friends from years gone by. There were 396 players playing on three courses - Scottburgh, Selbourne and Umdoni.

The Plennegy St Cathryn’s entered two teams, a Senior Frog team (Piet Nel, Fanie van Wyk and Mike Harrison) and a Frog team (Brent Barkhuizen, Deon van Dyk and Dieter Meyer).

The Senior Frog team scored 193 points, just six points shy of 199 points which was the qualifying number to go through to the finals to be played on the Sunday.

The Senior Frog team ended in 25th place out of 55 teams. The Frog team also scored 193 points also six points off the place and in 22nd place out of 47 teams.

There were a few internal awards over the weekend.

Brent was the recipient of the “Green shirt” (not the winner’s shirt - the worst round of the day), twice over the weekend with Mike getting it once.

Fanie “Vetkoek” van Wyk (71) beat Deon “Silent” van Dyk (69) by two points to win the St Cathryn’s trophy for the most points over the weekend. Once again the teams represented St Cathryn’s admirably against many much bigger clubs.

Thank you to Plennegy for the smart outfits that certainly made the teams stand out over the weekend. St Cathryn’s are very grateful for the continued support received from Duane Corbishley and Plennegy.

The next golf fixture at St Cathryn’s will be the Kranskop Farmers’ fun 9 Hole American Scramble, golf fund-raiser to raise funds for Golf 911.

Tee-off is from 11am on November 11, and all are welcome to enter this fun competition for a worthy cause. If you don’t want to play golf you can ride our six kilometre or 25km cycle track.

On Sunday November 12 we will be joined by Darnall and Mandeni to play the triangular competition, the format is individual stableford, please let Piet know if you will be able to play.
