St Cathryns news

THE Farmers Agri-care Monthly Mug was played on one of the 284 perfect golfing weather days at St Cathryn’s. The temperature rose into the late 20’s but a “cold frosty or two” helped ease the high temp.

The golfers teeing off early, before the scheduled 9 am tee off time, were almost ahead of the greens mowing staff. These golfers went off early because of family and other sporting commitments scheduled for the afternoon.

Our members from Richards Bay, Pietermaritzburg, Greytown, Hermannsburg, Hillcrest and Westbrook on the North Coast played in the field.

The three father-and-son combinations were acknowledged at prize giving — Tienie and Marius Muller, Badger Aherin and his two sons Travis and Gregan, and Mike and Justin Harrison. Two of the greens have severe dollar spot disease and are being treated and some of the fairways and rough caught the golfers. The fairways and rough had to be cut twice in the last week, due to the ideal growing conditions at present.

The course set-up was modified and two of the tee box positions were moved forward to make up for the two very cheeky pin positions.

The decision to move the tee's forward was to take into account the somewhat thick kikuyu in the rough to the carry on the fairways.
