THE Tuta Carriers Club Championship was played concurrently with the Farmers Agri-care Monthly Mug over the weekend April 14 and 15 in the most perfect weather.

On Sunday morning the golfers set off later than normal due to thick mist, with one golfer withdrawing as he had a long-standing appointment.

The club championship is played over two days and the format is medal, in all three divisions.

Friday was used as a nine hole practice round, to see the speed of the greens, to check out the rough and no-go areas, and, most of all, to see where the pin positions are placed.

The normal tight pins were found on holes three, five and 12 and the normal Sunday pin on the eighth was easier than normal.

Greens were mowed on all three days of the competition and tee off markers were also changed on some of the holes over the weekend.

Saturday night the leader in the clubhouse held a three-shot lead over golfing friend and Interc-lub buddy Deon van Dyk, and at one stage he had a six-shot lead, but the 15th hole cost Dieter severely after hitting two balls into the water and he had to settle for an eight on his scorecard.

Deon started his first round on Sunday with a birdie and slowly reeled Dieter in.

In the C division the ever green Piet Coetzee held the lead from the first shot off the tee box on Saturday, after surviving an early scare when his tee shot landed in the rough ... and in the allocated five minutes to look for his ball; the greenkeeper found the ball.

Mike Harrison was his usual funnyman at the club. With the severe loss of the Sharks against the Bulls in Durban, he then turned to an old Greek tradition to break a plate or three.
