St Cathryn’s news

2019-09-18 06:00

THE St Cathryn’s golf course had two groups of golfers on Saturday, September 14; there were the members playing in the Farmers Agri-care Monthly Mug competition and Stroke 18 (a group of golfers from the South of Durban) golfers who stayed and played at St Cathryn’s during their weekend golf tour.

The very soft, misty weather we experienced made the greens a little slower, despite them having been cut twice during the week. The good news is that one of the big Pin Oak trees is starting to show signs of recovery, this after being transplanted and moved to a new location 80 m away.

Members and visitors played for the first time after the course was re-rated and welcomed the new “less harsh handicaps” for St Cathryn’s as the new Slope rating is up from 120 to 131 on the white markers.

Farmers Agri-care monthly mug results:

First — Dieter Meyer nett 68

Second — Maruis Muller nett 72

Third — Heinrich Sander net 73 o.c.o

Fourth — Paul du Preez

Fifth — Steve vd Merwe nett 74

Nearest to pin 9/18th: Flip Botha (excellent shot with a thirty eight cm putt)

Best Stableford: Maruis Muller 37 points

Captains Putter: Andre Liddemore

Current Grand Prix standings: Dieter Meyer is in the lead with Captain Fanie van Wyk chasing.

This coming weekend, St Cathryn’s will be hosting the popular Hermannsburg School golf day with a Friday or Saturday field in a better ball format. Last year’s winners, Flip and Ronel Botha, will be trying to defend their title.

Tee off spots are still available. Entry fee includes the golf, a “German meal”, sandwiches at half-time, and prizes.

Being a long weekend, we can accommodate you with a Friday tee off or even an early Saturday morning slot.

Come and visit the new-look golf course while your own golf courses are having their Spring Treatment.
