RESIDENTS in Sargeaunt Street and Durban Street are still reeling from shock after the roof of two houses were ripped off when strong winds hit Greytown on Monday, February 3.

A resident Peter Manobath said: “At 3pm a powerful wind came from the direction of the FET college towards our area. It lasted for about 20 seconds, when I went out to investigate, the rafters and awnings of my house was ripped off,” he said.

Operations manager for Umzingi Security, Ganga Moodley confirmed that he received frantic calls from residents reporting the incident.

Another resident Mickey Maharaj said: “We don’t know if it was tornado or just strong wind. The wind blew the roof off my house. The roof landed across the road. It’s unbelievable,” he said.
