HOW intelligent are you? This is a question we all ponder at times. Intelligence is evaluated through tests and examinations at school.

Howard Gardner, an educational theorist from Harvard University, identified seven distinct intelligences which “documents the extent to which students possess different kinds of minds and therefore learn, remember, perform and understand in different ways”.

When we master the schooling system which is heavily reliant on linguistic skill, we feel intelligent. Another question is how creative are you? Again many of us might not think we are creative.

These two concepts are interconnected. Most people don’t recognise their intelligence, creativity or what they are good at. Many schooling systems stifle creativity and individuality in students.

At Wembley College we do the Cambridge system, which encourages pupils to think and question in a creative school environment.

Our ethos at the school is “Celebrate the Individual”. We want to find your child’s passion and assist them to find their individual path of success. Intelligence and creativity are the key elements which will drive future generations. We need to creative individuals who will pioneer ideas. Creativity is not limited to the arts.

Our Form 3 pupils had their intelligence tested in their latest set of IGCSE examinations.

Their results were very pleasing. Well done to CG Nefdt who achieved the highest results in maths - 96%, ICT - 91%, biology - 94% and chemistry - 94%.

Paige Schofield achieved 82% for maths — congratulations. Some pupils excelled in ICT: Renier van Rooyen - 87%, Philasande Mnguni - 85%, Paige Schofield 83%, Milla Herbst - 80%. Congratulations to Renier van Rooyen who achieved 88% for biology. We are proud of your achievements. You are on the road to discovering how to use your intelligence to find your passion.
