Thank you to Dave Carroll

2016-10-05 06:00

Sir, LET me through the medium of your paper express our sincere gratitude to Dave Carroll for what he did, what he meant and what he still means to our community.
Dave was very involved in the leadership of the Umvoti Commandos and when the commandos were disbanded, our “security” was left in a void and violent attacks and crime were at a starting point.
Dave saw fit to manage and found 911 and partially fill this gap. What a tremendous organisation he subsequently helped to grow and mould.

Dave ran 911 purely from donations, being at the time, one of the biggest contributors, himself. His organisation was there for everyone whether they donated towards it or not.

He has been influential in various projects requested by community members. A little while ago he was instrumental in motivating for speed restrictions to be put up on the R74 through Welgegund, making it safer for motorists, but more importantly, pedestrians.

During farm attacks in our area of which we certainly had enough, Dave was always in attendance. I personally experienced his help often.

The personal “Dave Carroll” touch, to unselfishly serve the whole community, will no longer be there and will be sorely missed. Using the words of Thomas Jefferson about a colleague, Dave at 911 “will be succeeded, but will never be replaced”.

We salute you Dave, your unselfish ways and commitment to the greater good of us all. You are certainly a pillar and philanthropist and may we all strive to commit ourselves to our fellow community members in a manner as you have done over the years.

With thanks.

Abie Surendorff and family.
