The 2018 fire season in review

2018-10-31 06:02

THE Umvoti Fire Protection Association fire season has lasted the standard six months, from May 1 to October 31. As it is my first fire season as the Fire Protection Officer in the area, I can breathe a sigh in relief and say it wasn’t bad (touchwood).

Year to date we have had 113 reported fires, which is 13% less than last year’s fire season.

Most of the fires occurred in June and July and were predominantly caused by arson. We thank all our proactive UFPA members and fire fighters who fought these wild fires with zero fatalities on record.

NB — the burning of brushwood ban has been lifted from today, October 31. Please report all your fires to Firehawk and or G911 before you proceed.

Fires should be mopped and patrolled long after the fire has been controlled.
