MATTHEW 1:18-23 reads:Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying; “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord, through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His Name, Immanuel, which is translated “God with us.” Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did what the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife. And did not know her until she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus. The first person that ever called the son of God “Jesus”, on this earth, was Joseph and so often we forget about Joseph. He was a righteous and upright man. He found that his fiancé was pregnant and was going to have a baby and, in those days, that was a terrible sin. She could have been stoned in the village square, and he was going to secretly put her away, but the angel of the Lord said: “No, she has done nothing wrong. She has become pregnant through the Holy Ghost because she is carrying the Son of God in her womb and you shall call His name Jesus. Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a Son and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, God with us.”How can you doubt the immaculate conception and birth of Jesus Christ? Isaiah lived hundreds of years before this took place and he prophesied exactly how it would be: a virgin shall be with child. You don’t have to be a doctor or a gynaecologist to know that it is impossible for a woman to fall pregnant without knowing a man and yet Isaiah prophesied that hundreds of years before and Mary, the young maiden, fell pregnant without anybody knowing her. Christmas time is miracle time. It is impossible to be a Christian without faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for. It’s the evidence of things not yet seen. Augustine said: “Faith is to believe what you cannot see and the reward of that faith is to see what you believe”. I wish you and your family a very blessed, miraculous Christmas. God bless.— Angus Buchan.
