THE South African National Taxi Association (Santaco) KZN held its provincial elective conference on 20 September at which the top seven provincial office bearers were elected unopposed to serve for the next four years. Santaco organisational structure serves 16 regions, 246 associations and a provincial taxi council.

In the last four-year term some of the achievements of Santaco KZN include:

• regional awards for the best-run regions in KZN;

• establishment of the women’s desk addressing the issue that this industry is male dominated;

• upliftment of the moratorium at the Department of Transport, which was the main cause preventing the department from issuing an operating licence to taxi operators;

• school outreach programmes, school support programmes and social responsibilities; and

• internship programme - training academy.
