2018-03-07 06:00

BUHLEBUYEZA Secondary School’s personnel, neighbouring schools and the community, paid tribute to Mr S.V. Shabalala at a memorial service on March 3.

A teacher at the school, he had been hospitalised in late January and died on February 24.

Mr Shabalala was renowned as a teacher who continuously produced excellent results for the school. He joined Buhlebuyeza in 1996 and taught history, and even though he got ill in July last year, he maintained his excellent standard in the subject as he obtained a 94% pass rate among his pupils.

Mr Shabalala will be remembered for his contribution towards the development of the child, his discipline and professionalism in his teaching. He was also involved in many co-curricular activities at the school. Mr Shabalala was a leader himself, being elected as a Sadtu site steward and school governing body member representing teachers.

He was a man with a good heart as he used to assist needy pupils in applying for bursaries and motivating for them, especially those who did well at school. He will be missed by the school and the community. May his soul rest in peace.
