Tribute to Peter Jackson Brown

2017-06-28 06:00

GREYTONIAN Peter Brown, who died on 21 June at the age of 66, was known as a straight-talking man not afraid to tell truth.

He grew up and lived in Enhlalakahe. He endeared himself to a lot of people while working firstly as a clerk at Greytown Hospital where he was known for his punctuality, promptness and attention to detail.
This soon caught the eye of his superiors and he rose up the ranks and eventually ended his career at the provincial office as a special forensics investigator.
Peter was the chairman of the Coloured Local Affairs Committee and played a significant role during the transitional period which culminated in the formation of the first integrated Umvoti Municipal Council.

It is hard to describe a great man, a good and well lived life, in a few paragraphs. It is also equally hard to find the right word to capture the essence of a formidable man that Peter Brown was.
A very studious man he was an avid reader of books, up to date on current affairs and liked engaging people on various topics as well as being an avid follower of sport, especially soccer.

A loving and committed family man, Peter leaves his wife four daughters  and seven grandchildren who were always uppermost in his mind.
