Truth about male medical circumcision

2016-12-07 06:02

MALE medical circumcision (MMC) is one of the proven prevention solutions in reducing transmission of HIV and Aids.

Worldwide December is commemorated as an opportunity where communities unite in the strengthening effort towards an HIV Free generation fight against HIV. Hence, at Greytown Hospital we offer free MMC for males from 12 years and above.

The service is available at all our local clinics and hospital and is easily accessible - you just have to visit your nearest clinic or Greytown hospital and make a booking. Friday 9 December will be a MMC camp and men are urged to do the right thing and get circumcised.

Medical circumcision is the full removal of the foreskin, fully exposing the head of the penis. Getting circumcised is the right thing to do for your health as it improves your hygiene as it easier to keep clean as it removes certain cells within the foreskin that act as an entry point for HIV, lower the risk of penile cancer and reduces your partner's risk of cervical cancer, lower the risk of STI's and diseases, reduces your risk of HIV infection as it decreases the risk of tearing and bruising that can be an entry point for HIV.

As part of the HIV prevention campaign, HIV testing is being run at the same time. The responsibility of every male is to prevent the spread of HIV/Aids and to reduce the risk of contracting this disease through testing and circumcision.
