THE Umvoti Aids Centre has teamed up with Buhlebomvoti Special School to educate special needs children.

Previously teachers held classes at the old civic centre where space was limited and unsuitable for the various needs of disabled children.

As from Monday, the 22 current pupils have attended class in brightly painted and well equipped classrooms at Umvoti Aids Centre - all achieved by a group of volunteers.

The use of this venue at UAC provides pupils with a safe and child-friendly environment to assist with their educational, social and disability needs.

Mrs Shezi and Mrs Mthembu are two committed teachers who taught the children for many years in a variety of short-term, but not always that suitable, venues.

It is hoped that this new partnership will enable the school to benefit from the Umvoti Aids Centre services and will provide for enrolled children while fulfilling UAC’s vision of bringing hope to the people of Umvoti.

UAC director Derek Turner, on behalf of all concerned, expressed his appreciation to Sister Lee Mega Larkan, Barbara Pride, Lynn Haden, Leanne Bruss and those who contributed their time and resources to bring about this milestone.
