From Monday, June 18, to Thursday, June 21, the Umvoti Agricultural Society (UAS) hosted representatives from the Red Meat Producers Organisation and the Milk Producers Organisation to facilitate an educational course on all aspects of animal husbandry.

This course, instructed in isiZulu, was made available, free of charge, to all staff of members of the society.

Over the four days, many relevant aspects about the care and raising of livestock were dealt with.

The 20 enthusiastic participants received valuable instruction on aspects of stockmanship such as animal reproduction, basic veterinary practices, hoof care as well as effective observation and handling techniques.

On completion of the course, each of the participants received a competence certificate.

This educational course was but one of the future workshops envisaged by the Umvoti Agricultural Society to empower and inform members and their staff on different aspects of agriculture.
