UMgungundlovu District Municipality together with uMgungundlovu Development Agency were hosted by Mr Zondi, owner of Nyonende, at the Nyonende Farm in Wartburg on My 21. The district handed over 2 500 cabbage seedlings and 10 000 spinach seedlings to the three emerging farmers at Nyonende Farm, Buhle Farm and Isivuno Farm. This programme has been implemented in other local municipalities such as uMngeni and Mpofana.

The main aim for this programme was developed and assist farmers in producing quality vegetables. Councillor G. Dladla, who is heading up these seedling-delivery programmes, encouraged the people of uMshwathi to start up their own small businesses.

Dladla advised farmers that if they have any ideas that could be beneficial to their community, they should pitch them to the LED manager of uMshwathi Mr Zondi.

She added that the district is always willing to lend a helping hand especially when it comes to developing communities.

Mr Mazibuko from uMgungundlovu Development Agency stated that this seedling programme started three years ago, and it is a continuous programme that will be maintained and monitored as time goes by. The uMgungundlovu Development Agency has also partnered up with Social Development to supply them with seedlings for their programmes as well.

Mazibuko also acknowledged the district for the dedication they have shown so far and encouraged the farmers to carry on working hard. “This is only the beginning for the people of uMshwathi and soon they will reap the fruits of their labour.” — Supplied.
