IN a peaceful protest against the escalation of crime, members of uMshwathi Ward 4 and Ward 14 marched from Greengate in Ward 14 to the Harburg Police Station where Cllr Njabulo Cebekhulu handed over a memorandum to station commander Mr Zulu.

The community expressed their concern at the increase in killings, rape, drugs, access to whoonga, dagga and excessive alcohol abuse.

In the memorandum the community also appealed to the police to remove drug dealers because they are harming children. Also of concern was the issue of sugar daddies who were dating girls under the age of 16.

On behalf of communities Councillor Cebekhulu said: ‘‘We want our wards to be liveable, secure, happy and safe so we ask our police to act with extra vigilance to ensure the safety of the public.”
