Umvoti Community for Law & Order AGM

2018-06-27 06:02

THE Umvoti Community for Law & Order (more commonly known as Golf 911) held its AGM on Thursday, June 21.

The meeting was well attended. Those who attended were given an insight into the bold plans that Golf 911 has to make meaningful improvements to the safety and security of the Umvoti community.

It was encouraging to see the improvement in the finances of Golf 911, the robust checks and balances that are used to control the funds of the organisation, and the reserves that have been built up for planned capital projects.

The chairperson made special mention of the Umvoti Agricultural Society, who had been instrumental in raising the funds for the capital projects.

The chairperson also reminded the audience that the Golf 911 Ops Centre operates 24/7, 365 days a year, linking members to SAPS, Fire, Emergency Services and more via phone and radio networks. It was exciting to hear the chairperson’s report which went into detail about the plans for the organisation and how these were going to be achieved.

Golf 911 is starting a process of formalising its membership with the aim of being able to finance a full-time community liaison officer who will be primarily tasked with driving crime prevention initiatives within the Umvoti District.

One of the current initiatives that will have an immediate impact on crime in our district is a project to install licence plate recognition cameras at strategic points on the roads leading into Greytown.

The planning has been done over a number of years and is now awaiting final signatures before the implementation can be started. The Golf 911 Capital Projects Fund will be used to pay for this project. The services of Mr Ganga Moodley have been contracted on a part-time basis to manage the Ops Centre as well as growing awareness and membership within Greytown, until a full time community liaison officer can be employed. This is planned for January 2019.

It was great to attend such a positive AGM. The Umvoti district is very fortunate to have an organisation like Golf 911. I would like to encourage the community to get behind them as they work towards making Umvoti a safer place.
