IT is more than just a helping hand. In a great gesture Umvoti farmers have donated a total of 20 truckloads of animal feed to farmers in the Thornhill area in the Eastern Cape who have been badly affected by the fires that caused so much destruction to so many.
This came about as a result of a telephone chat between a local farmer and a friend in Thornhill. On realising their dire straits Dean Brown, chairman of the Umvoti Agricultural Society (UAS) emailed all UAS members, requesting animal feed to help these farmers.
Within a few hours, five truckloads of bales were donated by Pidelta, Moo2U and Golden Grow. Within a couple of days a further 15 truckloads of animal feed had been donated by Lloyd Robertson, Sutton Farming, AA Surendorff Farms, LA Hill Dealers, Harum Farms, Chartwell Farms, Barber Farming, RBJ Farming and CJ and DC Odendaal Farming.

A spokesman for the Thornhill farmers said they were so appreciative and overwhelmed by the volume donated by Umvoti.

Animal feed companies in the Cape are contributing to the logistics of the cost of transporting the bales - loads will need to be staggered due to the quantity that needs to be transported.

UAS would like to thank the farmers who donated for their generosity and compassion and for once again showing the amazing spirit that this farming community has to offer.
