UMVOTI Fire Protection Association (UFPA) members were introduced to tracker dog Smirrie and his handler Mandla, at the annual general meeting held on April 19 at the Greytown Country Club.

Chairman Rolf Konigkramer presented his final chairman's report and was thanked for the lengthy team he had successfully served. Sean Sneyd was elected as chairman. Members were introduced to the new FPO, Avela Mana.

Tracker dog Smirrie is available to all
UFPA members should they require him for tracking purposes in a suspected arson fire or any other tracking.

A reminder please not to contaminate the scene so that Smirrie can get a clear scent to track.

As the fire season approaches, brushwood may be burnt daily except over weekends — that is not from Friday 6 pm to Monday 6 am into the month of May.

The UFPA committee urges all to complete as their brushwood burning as soon as possible.

No burning is permitted on public holidays — this means that the last burning can take place on Wednesday, April 25, mop up on Thursday April 26 and burning can commence after the Tuesday holiday on, May 2. Please remember to log all burns through G911 they in turn will notify
